A statement made by Vang caught my attention; “Christians, no matter where they live, should strive to live a faith that is worthy of persecution.” “No matter where they live”—that means me. Immersed in a culture of political correctness and acceptance of all beliefs and lifestyles, I have sometimes questioned whether my “Merry Christmas” might offend someone of another belief system. Am I afraid of that low level of “persecution”? Or can I look upon it as a conversation starter if questioned? Has my behavior set an example of being socially appropriate and trying to fit in so much that I have neglected to show my children or others how to share their faith? Am I just inviting others to church or inviting them to a personal relationship with Jesus?
I remember a question I have heard on numerous occasions, “If you were arrested for being a Christian, would there be enough evidence to convict you? If I am a regular church attender would I be arrested or do I even share enough beyond those walls to draw the attention of those who might arrest me?
This season let us boldly say, “Merry Christmas,” and for the new year, let us resolve to share “our story” and our faith with others without fear of persecution.
