It is most rewarding, however, to "sprinkle Jesus into their lives" and see them grow spiritually. Sprinkling Jesus is not just sharing Bible stories and truths, it's demonstrating the deep, unconditional love and acceptance and pleasure that Jesus takes in seeing us grow spiritually. As 3 John 4 says, "I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth" and that joy only multiplies as I see it passed on to and carried on by my grandchildren as well.
Here's my job description for grandparents:
To sprinkle Jesus in their grandchildren's lives
To pray for them
To love them unconditionally
To make them feel special
To encourage them
To be a safe place
To support their parents
To make little things enjoyable
To bring fun surprises
To read to them
To sprinkle Jesus in their lives
To listen
To accept
To attend their sporting, singing, dancing, scouting, and other "ing" events
To create adventures
To play games, do crafts, and build things together
To teach them lessons of life
To share the history of the family
To set an example
To make life special
To sprinkle Jesus in their lives
If you are a grandparent, I trust that you are enjoying it immensely and developing those relationships purposefully.
If you still have a grandparent, I encourage you to take a few minutes regularly to send them a text, a selfie, make a quick call to check in, or stop by for a visit.
If you are still parenting, take time regularly to "be present" with your own children as a grandparent more easily has time to do.
If you don't have children or grandchildren, perhaps you have some time to invest in other young lives that cross your path. I encourage you to look around and see out those who need someone to take an interest in them, encourage them, accept them, and give them the love and nurture that they so desire.
